Food Service Coordinator

The CHS Harrisburg School Food Service Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising the kitchen food production for all classrooms, and catered functions. This individual is expected to ensure food quality standards, are accurately coordinated for daily meals and occasional events. This individual should be skilled at planning and coordination and should have an interest in working in an environment with young children. This individual will process menu and order changes to ensure there is sufficient inventory at the Center. The Food Service Coordinator will ensure the school meets and maintains process and safety standards. The Food Service Coordinator reports to the School Operations Manager and provides a report on risks and issues. Starting rate of pay is $17 to $19, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:  

  • Conducting periodic meetings to review the menu, catering, and techniques of the food service facility 
  • Performing sanitation and safety checks and implementing corrective procedures where necessary
  • Maintaining compliance to health regulations and completing reports and documents to substantiate such audits 
  • Reporting maintenance concerns 
  • Staying up to date on health trends and research
  • Completing production forecasts and advanced planning for purchase orders 
  • Compiling accurate data on food related items 
  • Working with food vendors to fulfill needs 
  • Conducting meetings to relay any changes to staff 
  • Tracking and understanding children's allergies and dietary needs and communicating those needs to appropriate staff members as needed 
  • Ensuring staff compliance with HACCP standards and safety procedures 
  • Auditing expenses to ensure they are within budget guidelines, and assisting with cost recovery operations 
  • Recording accurate information on weekly and monthly reports and keeping that data for future forecasting 
  • Completing audit and training logs 
  • Exhibiting positive relations towards children, families and staff when responding to questions and communications 
  • Attending monthly meetings with other members of the Center and department meetings as needed 

Qualifications:    

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • ServSafe Food Handlers Certification 
  • 2 years of experience in food related field 
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certifications 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Responsible, enthusiastic, and cares about working in a mission-focused environment  
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to effectively work with low-income families (preferred) 
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions  
  • Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedback 
  • Comfortability with technology including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and/or willingness to learn 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to influence, lead, educate teams 
  • Able to work 8am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility to work earlier/later based on Center needs
  • Commitment to the mission and values of CHS and MHS and demonstrated high degree of integrity as all MHS and CHS staff are considered to be role models for children
  • U.S. work authorization and successful completion of pre-employment background checks and clearances
