Communications and Media Relations Manager

The CHS Communications and Media Relations Manager is passionate about educational development and accessibility and is interested in growing the CHS image and brand to achieve that goal. This individual will be responsible for championing the CHS brand through public communications and social media strategies. This includes maintaining and growing a presence across 5+ social media channels and actively monitoring that presence. The Communications and Media Relations Manager leads all content creation including coordinating photography, videography, and blog materials in collaborating with the Marketing Manager. This individual provides strategic leadership in amplifying the CHS experience and establishing CHS as a thought leader. The Communications and Media Relations Manager is part of the CHS Central Office team, reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director, with whom the individual will work closely to ensure marketing strategy implementation. Starting salary is in the range of $57,997 to $77,426 per year, based on expertise. 

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing, managing, and monitoring presence for CHS across 5+ social media platforms
  • Creating unique, relevant content and sharing communications about CHS progress and updates on appropriate channels
  • Expanding and maintaining relations with local, regional, and national news outlets
  • Assisting in the development of stakeholder and community engagement plans
  • Counseling members of the CHS team prior their appearance in a news outlet as a representative of CHS in the public eye
  • Writing press releases, op-eds, media plans, blogs, and other relevant materials
  • Preparing briefing documents prior to media and public appearances
  • Securing coverage for major CHS events such as groundbreakings, center openings, etc.
  • Ensuring consistency in all external communications by writing, editing, or approving all print and online materials including blog content
  • Understanding and building target customer profiles to increase visibility of and participation in numerous annual and ad-hoc campaigns
  • Making decisions on media inquiries consistent with CHS priorities and commitments
  • Providing direct reports on metrics and progress to the Marketing and Communications Director
  • Coordinating with partner agencies to secure and direct the creation of relevant videos, photography, and written content
  • Collaborating with other internal teams to secure information for content creation
  • Supporting the planning and execution of CHS stakeholder events
  • Assisting with crisis response
  • Attending relevant ECE conferences
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with all staff and encouraging center growth and performance
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Ability to develop long-form and short-form content that effectively reaches relevant audiences
  • Comfort and confidence as a spokesperson
  • Responsible, enthusiastic, and cares about working in a mission-focused organization  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to influence, lead, and educate teams
  • Experience in people management and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities  
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions  
  • Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedback
  • Comfortability with technology including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and/or willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to effectively work with low-income families (preferred)
  • U.S. work authorization and successful completion of pre-employment background checks and clearances
  • Commitment to the mission and values of CHS and MHS and demonstrated high degree of integrity as all MHS and CHS staff are considered to be role models for children
