Building a foundation for your child and your family

Applying to Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning is not only an opportunity for an exceptional early education for your child, it’s an opportunity to build a safe, strong, and financially stable home for your whole family. CHS is committed to helping you grow as a family and strengthening your foundation. By engaging with the CHS program, you will gain the tools, knowledge, and resources to improve your child’s educational experience and grow as a family.

Understanding your role

By committing to be actively involved in the CHS program, you are setting your family up to thrive. Before moving to the next phase of the CHS admissions process, please review the following expectations and show your commitment by signing an acknowledgement statement.

Maintain 90% attendance

What you need to do: Make sure your child attends Monday through Friday, year-round, at a minimum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Though your child has the option to attend during the center hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is expected that they will not miss more than two days each month.

Why it’s important: Regular attendance supports your child’s progress while at CHS and has a direct on impact on preparing them for school.

Participate in quarterly home visits

What you need to do: Your Family Success Advocate will coordinate with you to schedule four home visits each year at an agreed on time.

Why it’s important: Our home visits help you form a strong relationship with your dedicated Family Success Advocate. They also ensure that your home is set up to best support your child’s learning and safety.

For your peace of mind: Home visits are a mandatory requirement for all CHS families. Your Family Success Advocate is there to connect with you and your family to support your goals in education, employment, finances, and many other areas. They are not there to find faults. If they see any safety needs in the home, they will work with your family to supply the necessary resources.

What happens during a visit:

  • Check your child’s development
  • Complete a home safety checklist
  • Review different play strategies
  • Complete required paperwork to keep your child’s enrollment status active

Set goals

What you need to do: Work with a Family Success Advocate for coaching on how to set and track goals related to your finances, education, employment, and personal growth.

Why it’s important: Setting and tracking goals increases your chances of achieving future success for you and your family.

Attend parent-teacher conferences

What you need to do: You must attend three 30-minute parent-teacher conferences each year.

Why it’s important: Meeting with your child’s teacher helps you stay informed about their progress and classroom experience. This will help you support your family’s goals and your child’s progress at home.

Participate in research

What you need to do: Routinely answer survey questions about your experiences with CHS.

Why it’s important: Responding to surveys helps CHS understand how well our program is working and where we need to improve.

Join family educational activities

What you need to do: Sign up for and attend free workshops and meetings with CHS staff, local organizations, and community services. These activities offer a convenient way to help you achieve the goals you set with your Family Success Advocate. They are usually held at your CHS center. If you have questions, stop by the Family Success Center for more information about the calendar of events.

Why it’s important: Your CHS center is a hub for your family to connect with your Family Success Advocate to discuss helpful information and to get support on your goals in education, finances, job opportunities, and more.

Accepting Your Role
